FRANKFORD — Willard Nathan Lowman, who died March 18, 2013, will be honored at a memorial service on Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m. in the Herzbrun Room at the McDowell Public Library in Welch. The family chose this venue because Willard served more than twenty-five years as Treasurer and dedicated member of the Board of Directors of the library. In lieu of flowers, donations to the library can be made.

Willard Nathan Lowman (88) passed peacefully at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Frankford, W.Va. on March 18, 2013. For more than 50 years, Willard was a resident of Welch, W.Va., in McDowell County. He was a Licensed Public Accountant and operated one of the largest accounting businesses in the area, serving clients all over southern West Virginia. He continued to serve some of those clients into his early 80s.

Born December 27, 1924, at McComas, W.Va., Willard was the son of Mack Lowman and Bainie Eugenia Bird Lowman. After Pearl Harbor, Willard enlisted in the Marines, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, and served during World War II with the Third Air Wing. He also served during the Korean conflict.

Willard was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 41 years, Marian Holbrook Lowman. He leaves one son, Marion David Lowman and daughter-in-law Kathleen Ewing of Frankford, W.Va.;  one daughter, Suzanna Lowman Cook of LasCassas, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Wesley Cook, Melina Cook McCall and husband Robert McCall, and Brenna Cook; and four great-grandchildren, Marian Cook, Jasper Cook, Jackson Cook, and Jasmine Cook.

Willard was a member of the American Legion, Forty and Eight, and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Elks. For his contributions as a Scoutmaster, he was the proud recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He was Treasurer and a dedicated member of the Board of Directors of the McDowell Public Library for more than 25 years.
