RICHMOND, Va. — Velma Duncan Sandoval, 87, passed from this earth and into Heaven on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Born April 21, 1925 in Herndon, W.Va., the daughter of the late Okley Thurman Duncan and Cosby Mae Radford Duncan.

She was a longtime resident of Mullens, W.Va., and had made Princeton her home for the past 25 years. Velma will be reunited in Heaven with her husband of 63 years, Alfonso “Al” Sandoval Jr.; her sister, Reba Dooley; and grandson, Nathan T. Joyce.

She is survived by three children, Donald D. Sandoval and wife Susie of Columbus, Ohio, Judith A. Joyce and husband Butch of Richmond, Va., and Marc M. Sandoval and wife Gail of Milton, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Velma was a 1941 graduate of Mark Twain High School in Stotesbury, W.Va., and a 1942 graduate of Beckley College. She worked for many years as an executive secretary and was an active member of the National Secretaries Association, as well as the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Velma enjoyed a significant relationship with the Lord, and was a lifelong member of the Mullens Presbyterian Church, and the Princeton Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. She also enjoyed Bible study, and participated in numerous Bible study groups in the area. She will be missed by those who knew her for her outgoing personality, positive attitude, and infectious energy.

Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Princeton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ed Pettus officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the church from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Monday.
