VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Bryan Michael Queen, 37, of Vestavia Hills, Ala., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 25, 2013 while living in Chongqing, China. He had lived in Chongqing for the past four and a half years where he taught English and worked as a consultant to various Chinese law firms and other businesses. While living in China, Bryan became fluent in Chinese language, writing, and culture. He was known for his care, concern, and kindness for his family, friends, and students. Bryan Michael will be very sadly missed by both family and friends.         

Bryan was born in Welch, W.Va. on July 29, 1975 and reared in Vestavia Hills, Ala. where he attended the Vestavia school system. He was an honors graduate of Vestavia Hills High School, Class of 1993 where he was a member of the German National Honor Society and track team. Bryan received a B.S. in Microbiology from UAB in 1997. Prior to moving to China, Bryan worked for Biocryst Pharmaceuticals and other local businesses in Birmingham, Ala. He attended Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 69 at Mountain Chapel.

Bryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Christine Carr McGuire of War, W.Va., John Gratton McGuire Jr. of Homosassa Springs, Fla., Ralph and Mildred Djurisich Queen of Logan, W.Va., and his godfather, Arthur Allen Carr, M.D. of Grand Isle, Fla.

He is survived by his parents, Joseph Michael and Shannon Carr McGuire Queen of Vestavia Hills, one sister, Christian Elizabeth Queen of Vestavia Hills, one brother, Brannon Linley Queen, MD of Birmingham and godmother, Elizabeth Harris Carr of Grand Isle, Fla. Bryan is also survived by long-time friends, Jimmy McClure and Dave Sharrow of Vestavia Hills, Ala., and Shirley Liu, Patrick Kelly and Bill Deng of China.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Vestavia on Monday, April 1, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Bryan’s life will be honored in a memorial service at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 2nd at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Parrish officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Elmwood Cemetery.
