James Raymond DeFriece

PRINCETON — James Raymond DeFriece, 79, of Princeton, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born May 7, 1933, in Abingdon, Va., he was the son of the late Vance DeFriece and Rose Wheeler DeFriece.

Raymond was a retired engineer for Norfolk-Southern Railroad with 38 years of Service; he was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Engineers.

Raymond was an active member of the Landmark First Church of God on the Willowbrook Road near Princeton.

In his spare time, Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid gun collector. He was a member of the AM & AF Masonic Lodge in Bluefield, Va.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Mathena DeFriece on Tuesday March 26, 2013, also a son, Cecil DeFriece and six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters: Vonda Parks of Fort Chiswell, Va., Jane Panjehshahi and husband Mohammad of North Potomac, Md.; stepdaughter, Cindy Campbell and husband Hugh of Princeton; grandchildren, Sean DeFriece, Jason Panjehshahi, Amber Hyder, Kristopher Panjehshahi, Shana Young, Jeannette Panjehshahi, Brandon Perkins, Aaron Perkins, Mistie Parks, Katilyn DeFriece, Cheyenne Parks and Rachael Parks; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lewis of Kingsport, Tenn.; a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Scott Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road, Bluefield, Va.

Friends may visit with the family Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

His grandsons and family members will serve as pallbearers. Johnny Cecil will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The DeFriece family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
