Donna Gail Byrge Gilpin, 69, of Bluefield, WV, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at her home. Born July 6, 1944, in Shady Spring, WV, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Myrtle Smith Byrge.
She was a 1962 graduate of Shady Spring Hill School and a 1963 graduate of Little French Beauty Academy. Donna fulfilled her dream of being a wonderful wife, mother and cosmetologist. Her skills as a hairdresser were well known in Bluefield and she was the best at her craft. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens, cooking, sewing, keeping a spotless house and riding on her lawn mower to help with the yard work.
Donna had a great sense of humor and loved listening to music, especially if it was her husband Larry, singing and playing his guitar. She cherished her family and thought of her brothers and sisters and brother and sister-in-laws quite often. She loved them very much and she will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Byrge.
Those left to cherish her memory are the loves of her life, husband, Larry Gilpin and son, Randy Gilpin. Survivors also include sisters, Velinda Carlton of Tampa, FL and Vivian Esposito of Beckley, WV, brothers, Earl Jr., Jimmy and Eddie Burge all of the Beckley area, Doug Byrge of Georgetown, SC and Charles Byrge of GA, many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tony Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at the funeral home from 12 noon until the hour of service.
