RAVEN, Va. — RAVEN, Va. — Paul Parker VanDyke, age 72 of Raven, Va. ended his battle with brain cancer on Wednesday, February 25, 2014 at Heritage Hall of Tazewell, Va.  

He was born on March 17, 1941 in Vansant, Va. to the late, George L. and Lou Looney VanDyke, former Buchanan County residents.

He served his country in the United States Army and later worked in the coalmines for several years before going into business for himself. He was the owner and operator of Soft Water Sales and Service, Inc. located in Raven, Va. Paul was an inspiration to all who knew him and lived his life as an example to others. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church of Christ and had lived most of his life in the Raven area.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria (Nut) VanDyke; brothers, Noah, Marshall and Lowell VanDyke; sisters, Juanita Pasteur, Ola Gay Matney and Helen Jackson; granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Atkins.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Cleo Woods VanDyke of Raven, Va.; daughter, Trish Boyd of Raven, Va.; brothers, Joe VanDyke of Raven, Va. and Johnny VanDyke and wife, Darla of Bristol, Va.; grandchildren, Chad VanDyke and wife, Sarah of Burlington, N.C., Kendra L. Boyd of Raven, Va. and Kaula N. VanDyke.

Funeral services for Paul Parker VanDyke will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Fridy, February 28, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va. with the Elders Frank Moure and Mike McClure officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. on 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post # 9640 will conduct the Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call beginning at 5:00 on Friday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
