Robert Lee Murphy, 82, of Iaeger, WV, passed away at home on Thursday, October 31, 2013. He was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Iaeger, WV.
He attended Iaeger Schools and McDowell County Vocational School. He was a coal truck driver, a tipple worker for Virginia Crews, and an excellent mechanic. He was a member of the NRA, the American Legion of Bradshaw Post #175, and Local 8783 of the United Mine Workers. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He loved gospel music and listening to Pastor Joel Osteen.
Preceding him in death was his father, Jesse Murphy, Sr., his mother, Jane (Curry) Murphy; and brothers, Jack Murphy and Ted Murphy.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Allen Murphy. Also surviving are his brothers: Jesse, Jr. (Peggy) Murphy, of Richlands, VA; and Ray (Edna) Murphy, of Williamson, WV. Sisters: Jean (Donald) Deuvall of Hollywood, MD; and Joan (Mickey) Damron, of Fort Mohave, AZ. Sister-in-law, Betty (Jack) Murphy, and nephews, Bill and Bob Murphy of FL. He had a special friend and caregiver, Wilma McCoy, of Iaeger, WV, and many other nieces and nephews.
In honoring the wishes of the deceased his body has been cremated and there will be no services.
