WINFIELD — Mr. Russell Brooks, 75, of Winfield, WV was called by Jesus Christ to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at his home. Russ was a Christian, baptized Baptist by faith, a loving husband and loyal friend. He was a native of Bluefield, WV where he attended Whitethorne Elementary, Fairview Elementary and Fairview Jr. High School. At 17 years old he started working for his uncle at Arnold's Garage.

He served in the U.S. Air Force 1959-1964 stationed at Truax Field, Madison, Wisconsin where he received his GED. He was employed by Kyser Ford in Madison as an auto mechanic. He returned to WV in 1969 and worked in the HVAC and pipefitting construction field with Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 625 at various locations in WV, OH, KY and Washington, DC. Jobsites included power and chemical plants, hospitals, colleges, utilities, the WV Turnpike Tunnel Project and the construction of the Toyota Plant in Buffalo, WV before retiring in 1998. He made several lifelong friends throughout his career, including best friend Bill Trogdan (Gloria) who was with Russ during his last hours of life.

He loved cars (Ford), NASCAR (Bill Elliot), football (Green Bay Packers) and all types of music.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ethel and Jesse Brooks, sisters Debra Brooks and Avis Irissa Whittaker, brothers Marvin and Jeff, sister-in-law Glennis Clapp and father-in-law Robert Parsons.

In addition to his wife of 30 years, Joyce Parsons Brooks, he is survived by mother-in-law Phyllis Parsons, daughter Rosann, son Rusty, grandsons Jesse, Kristopher and Coleman Brooks, daughter-in-law Kay (Buddy), brother Dan (Doris) Brooks, sister Andrea (Charles) Breckenridge, sisters-in-law Shirley Brooks, Marge Brooks, Junetta Plumley, Juretta Carte, Junora (Steve) Facemyer, Jill (Stanley) Patterson and several cousins, nieces and nephews including Brady who was like a grandson to him.

His body was donated to WVU Medical Center. A celebration of Russ' life by all those who loved him will be held at a later date.
