ABBS VALLEY, Va. — Sandra D. Thompson, 68, of Abbs Valley, VA, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in Dublin, VA. Born in Abbs Valley, VA she was the daughter of the late Frank William Gillespie and Linda Hayes Gillespie.

She was a member of the Abbs Valley Baptist Church in Abbs Valley, VA and a charter member of Rescue 945 in Boissevain, VA. Sandra worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years took pride in being a caregiver. In her spare time she loved to make crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin M. Thompson, Sr. and one brother, John Gillespie.

Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Diane Bowman of Nebraska; two sons, Franklin "Macky" Thompson and wife Vicki of Dublin, VA and Jimmy Thompson and wife Kelly of Elkin, NC; six brothers, Frank Gillespie of South Carolina, Arnold Gillespie of Bluefield, VA, Curtis Gillespie and wife Jean of Bluefield, VA, Ernest Gillespie and wife LaVerne of Rock, WV, Gordan Gillespie and wife Lillian of Hurt, VA and Roger Gillespie and wife Sandy of Gainsville, Florida; two sisters, Carolyn Edwards and husband Richard of Norfolk, VA and Sharon York and husband Roger of Gibsonville, NC; grandchildren, Jason Bowman of Florida, Matthew Bowman of Abbs Valley, VA , Phillip Bowman of Arizona and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rodriguez Funeral Home in Bluefield, VA with the Rev. Frank Stanley officiating. Friends may call Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
