KEYSTONE — Charles Michael Newman, age 64, of Brick Row, Keystone, W.Va., formerly of Carswell, went to be with the Lord Wednesday night, April 17, 2013 at Charleston Area Medical Center, after a long illness. Born December 24, 1948 in Welch, W.Va., he was the son of the late Kermit Newman and Rita Frost Newman.

He was a graduate of Welch High School, he was a retired coal miner from Eastern Associated Coal Co. Keystone #1 and  Lightfoot #1 in Boone County, W.Va. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was affiliated with the Methodist faith, was a former resident of Bolt, W.Va., and had resided in Carswell and Keystone most of his life.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark Newman and Kermit Lynn Newman; his paternal and maternal grandparents.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Verta Bowman Newman of the home; one son, Adam Newman of Brick Row, Keystone, W.Va.; one daughter, Crystall Dillon and husband John Dillon II of Brick Row, Keystone, W.Va.; three sisters, Marlene Martin and husband Robert of Beckley, W.Va., Karen Smith of Carswell, W.Va., and Brandie Newman and friend Rebecca of Tennessee. Two most special people in his life, his grandchildren: Madison and Tyler Dillon of Brick Row, Keystone, W.Va. Three nieces who were like daughters: Melanie Harman, Missy Casey, and Ellen Parks. Also several additional nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 22, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, W.Va. with the Rev. Johnny Wayne Gray officiating. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, W.Va.

Friends may call Sunday night at the Widener Funeral Home, Northfork, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Warden, George Martin, Bud Belcher, Eric Graham, Keith Meade, and Brian Meade. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Moore, Roger Moore, and Jim Widener.
