Granville Lee White

STATESVILLE, N.C — Granville Lee White, age 58, of Statesville, N.C., left his earthly home on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 after an unexpected illness at Wake Forrest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

He now is at rest with his heavenly father. Born Oct. 22, 1954 Granville was the son of Lois White Sparks. He attended Dan River High School in Danville, Va. and then went on to serve in the Army before working as a construction worker for many years.

While residing in Welch, W.Va., he was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of American Legion Post 8 in Welch, W.Va.

Granville attended Tabernacle Baptist Church in Statesville, N.C. and enjoyed talking about his savior with Pastor Curtis White.

In addition to his parents, Granville was preceded in death by his four brothers, Curtis Brown, Nathan Sparks, Bill Sparks and Jim Sparks. He is also preceded in death by one sister, Sam Groff.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Coleman White of the home and two former wives, Carolyn White of Danville, Va. and Donna White of Welch, W.Va.; four daughters, Lindsey Akers of Welch W.Va. and husband James Clark Akers II, Rebecca White (Matthew) Yates of Danville, Va., Cassandra Lee Burkett (Brandon) of Welch, W.Va., and Samantha Bercian of Norcross, Georgia; one son, Jose Bercian (Carla) also from Georgia.

Granville had a host of grandchildren: James Akers III, Michael Paul White, Kaiden Reign Fowler, Haileigh Renae Burkett, Jose Antonio Bercian, Xylinah Davis Bercian, Adrianah Michelle Bercian, Jose Antonio Bercian Jr., Luis Samuel Bercian, Julian Lovelle Webb, Gianah Bercian and Aaliyah Bercian. He loved them all dearly and they were "Papaw's babies!"

He also is survived by brothers, Don Sparks, Bob Sparks and Glen Sparks and sisters, Elby Roberts, Loretta Dillon and Ruth Chaney. Granville had a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. White was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Statesville, N.C. with the Rev. Curtis White officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery with full military horrors. Friends called prior to the services from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
