Edward Lee Burnette III, 57, of Bluefield and Ceres, Va., died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 7, 2013 after an extended illness.
Born in Bluefield, December 31, 1955, Ed was a 1974 graduate of Bluefield High School. He attended Bluefield State College and graduated from Radford University in 1980.
Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward Lee Burnette Jr.; and grandparents, Edward Lee Burnette Sr. and Anna Sutphin Burnette of Hillsville, Va. and Issac and Nannie French Brooks of Bluefield.
He is survived by his mother, Bernice Brooks Burnette of Bluefield; sister, Toni Burnette Goodykoontz of Morgantown, W.Va.; brother, William Mark Burnette and wife Jenny of Uniontown, Ohio; niece, Sarah Goodykoontz Pattison of Morgantown; nephews, John Goodykoontz of Washington, D.C., Tyler McCue, William Chase and Taylor McKenzie Goodykoontz all of Morgantown.
In his early years, Ed was a volunteer for the Bluefield Rescue Squad and a member of the ski patrol for Snowshoe Mountain. Following in his father's footsteps, Ed loved all things outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a skilled archer.
Ed was happiest at his farm, Brushy Mountain Farm and Nursery, fishing from the pond or tending his gardens and flowers followed by one of his many faithful dogs. His woodworking craftsmanship has graced the homes of many friends and family.
Visitation will be held at Mercer Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted at Mercer Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
