TAZEWELL, Va. — Lawrence Sheppard Sr., age 76, of Tazewell, Va., died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, W.Va..
Born April 29, 1936 in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of the late Lawrence and Deborah Ann Nipper Sheppard. Mr. Sheppard was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the US Army and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 31 at Richlands, Va. He was a former board member of the Soil & Water Conservation District in Tazewell County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowell E. Sheppard and Wallace G. Sheppard; half brothers, Roy Breedlove, Ganvil Breedlove, Malice Pruett, Shuler Pruett, and Sherman Pruett; sister, Juanita Elswick; half sister, Delores Shrader; one great-grandchild, Brianna Lynette Sheppard.
Survivors include his former wife, Maria Sheppard, of Tazewell, Va.; one son, Lawrence Sheppard, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Tazewell, Va.; two daughters, Sarah Sheppard, of Tucson, Ariz., and Gayle Hutton, of Tazewell, Va.; half brother, Bradley Sheets, of Roanoke, Va.; half sisters, Launa Williams, Claremont Logan, and Alease Aldridge, all of Mudfork, Va.; three grandchildren, Eric Sheppard, Neric Sheppard, and Manuel Sheppard; two great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va., with Pastor Roy Boardwine officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va., where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the DAV Chapter No. 31 of Richlands, Va. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Sheppard Jr., Eric Sheppard, Neric Sheppard, Manuel Sheppard, Harold Pruett, Tommy Gross, and William Asbury.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.
