RICHLANDS, Va. —
RICHLANDS, Va. — Sylvia Jean Shelton, age 75, of Richlands, Va., passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born October 2, 1938 in Richlands, Va. she was the daughter of the late, Clarence Edward and Bessie Mae Houchins Reedy. She worked for General Instruments, spent time in New York City as a nurse’s aide, Ford Motor Company, Pizza Hut in Grundy, Burger Queen and Druthers. She attended Claypool Hill Church of Christ. She loved spending time out with her friends, Audrey and Ommi, also known as the “3 Ridge Runners.” She loved her family and growing flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Shelton.
She is survived by her children, Jo Ann Deel and husband, Elmer of Belfast, Va., Gerald Grimmett and wife, Diana of Cedar Bluff, Va., Bobbie Jean Garrett of Charlotte, N.C., Nancy Shinall and husband, Barry of Cedar Bluff, Va. and Jamie M. Shelton of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Leora M. Harrison and husband, Harold of Cedar Bluff, Va.; niece raised like a sister, Pat Warner and husband, Jerry of Johnson City, Tenn.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2014 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va. with Evangelist Bob Smith officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Friday.
