Charles M Sacre III

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

ATLANTA, Ga. —  ATLANTA, Ga. — Charles M Sacre III, a native of Atlanta, Ga., was born on February 19 to Charles M. Sacre Jr. And Antoinette Mitchem Sacre. Charlie and his family were members of the historic Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta from his infancy until his move to Macon, Ga. in the 1960's. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and finished college after his military service studying business and accounting and obtaining a law degree in his hometown of Atlanta.

As an astute insurance professional, Charlie managed for over a decade one of the largest agencies in the Southeast at an early age.  Conducting business all over the U.S., he became a private pilot so that he could get back home from his trips as quickly as possible.  During this time, he became a tribunalized underwriter at Lloyd's of London and for many years flew to London regularly to place business on the floor of Lloyd's.  Later, he opened a successful agency in Atlanta with two partners, but in the late 1970's, Charlie discovered Bluefield with its ruggedly beautiful mountains and four distinct seasons.  He was smitten.

He established his own agency in Bluefield and with his family moved permanently to the area in 1981. Over the next two decades, Charlie opened agencies in West Virginia, Virginia, and in Tennessee finally retiring in 2000 after selling his business to Riedman/Brown & Brown. In retirement, he continued his love of collecting antiques having operated several antique shops through the years, Notre Place, The Deacon's Bench, and The Corner Shop/Perry House in Bramwell, W.Va. Bramwell was home to Charlie and wife, Charlotte, for 16 years and they lovingly renovated their 1902 historic home, the Perry House. Instrumental in the revitalization of Historic Bramwell, Charlie served on the Town Council and worked tirelessly to successfully have the Town listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Charlie was very active in the community as a member of numerous civic organizations and church activities. In 1981, he and his family joined Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. Through the church, he became involved in The H.E.L.P.E.R. Clinic, a personal evangelism training program. Along with several other church members, he traveled to Cincinnati repeatedly to complete the training at College Hill Presbyterian Church. He particularly enjoyed his time as President of the Bluefield Union Mission, in part because of his friendship with the late Dr. Allen Hammond.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 24 years, Julia Brown Sacre; his brother, Robert K. Sacre; and his sister, Betty Sacre Ramos. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Charlotte Edwards Sacre; his daughter, Michelle Sacre Gottshall Richey of Atlanta, and two grandsons, Ken Gottshall (Kristi) and their two children Rucker and Andrea, and Kyle Gottshall, and his granddaughter Brooke Richey.  His sister, Katherine Sacre Justice and her children, Matthew and Kathy, all of Fairborn, Ohio also survive.  Other special relatives include nephew Marvin Ramos, niece Marion Louise Ramos Smith, and sister-in-law Mrs. Robert K. Sacre (Elsie) all of Atlanta, Ga.

Also, survived by Charlie’s wonderful caregivers, Mike Barnes, Julie Scott, Aaron Shawver, Ann Addair and Clara Taylor. They all quickly became new members of the Sacre Family.
