Kate N. Farmer, age 91, of Elbert, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Welch Community Hospital after a short illness. Born September 25, 1921 in Belspring, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lafeyette Nester and Sarah Harold Nester.
She was a member of the Advent Christian Church, in Elbert, W.Va. She was a retired employee of the McDowell County Board of Education as a cook from Gary Elementary School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker, and was a resident of Elbert most of her life. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Vernon G. Farmer on January 13, 2012; her son-in-law, Donald Bowen; also four sisters and six brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her children, Linda Graves and husband Everett of Gary, W.Va., Jerry Farmer and wife Glenna of Thorpe, W.Va., Peggy Winiarczyk and husband Joe of King, N.C., Ruth Bowen of Pageton, W.Va., Donna Uhl and husband Allen of Welch-Pineville Road, Jeff Farmer and wife Diane of Elbert, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, W.Va. with the Rev. Don Farmer Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, W.Va.
Friends may call Tuesday night at the Widener Funeral Home, Northfork, from 6 to 8:00 p.m.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
