James Russell “Rusty” Witt

ROANOKE, Va. — James Russell “Rusty” Witt, 59, of Roanoke, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at his home after being in declining health for several years.

Born Dec. 17, 1952, in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the third child of the late Gilbert James Witt and Emma Lee Waddle Witt.  

Rusty was a patriot who served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corp., having served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

After serving his country, Rusty started his own contractor and carpenter business and was well known for his fine wood working skills throughout the Roanoke area which kept him in high demand.

In addition to his parents, Rusty was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Witt, a brother, Timothy Lee Witt and his sister, Joyce Faye Parrish.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Marion Dee Witt of Roanoke, Va.;  one brother, Gilbert R. Witt and wife, Brenda, of Princeton, W.Va.;  his sisters, Lois Gail Casey and husband, Buck, of Monroe, N.C., and Becky Browning of Roanoke, Va. Also surviving are a host of special nieces and nephews whom Rusty loved.

The family has honored Rusty's request that he be cremated.  A Service of Celebration to honor the life of Rusty will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from Lotz Funeral Home Chapel located at 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke, Va.
