Margie Hudgins Compton

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Margie “Tootsie” Hudgins Compton, 91, of Bluefield, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Margie was born in Tazewell County Virginia on June 7, 1922 to the late Henry and Sallie Hudgins. She was the youngest of nine children. She married the late Claude E. Compton of Bluefield, Virginia and together they had three children. She was a wonderful homemaker that opened her house for the holidays to friends and family alike. She loved preparing large dinners and inviting everyone over.

Margie also enjoyed gardening, canning, reading and crocheting. She loved animals of every kind. In her younger years she loved spending warm summer days camping or fishing. In her later years, she was happiest spending afternoons on the front porch, drinking coffee and talking with her family and friends.

Margie was a member of Falls Mills Christian Church for more than forty years, where she enjoyed the fellowship of her church family. She will be greatly missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Sallie Hudgins, three brothers, Chandis, Snow and Desmond Hudgins, five sisters, Audrey Anderson, Lucille Childress, Hazel Smith, Thelma Childress and Allis Thompson, her husband, Claude Compton, daughter, Carolyn Colbert and great-grandson, Aston Stone.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Jimmy Compton and wife Helen of Bluefield, Va., Randy Compton and wife Robin of Bluefield, Va. Seven grandchildren, Sherri, Claudia, Shane, Stephanie, Josh, Lesley and Shannon. Twelve great-grandchildren, Chancey, Zack, Amber, Katie, Baylie, Peyton, Emma, Zach, Jessee, Tobi, Easton and Sara and two great-great granddaughters Kyleigh and Kardigan. Other special family friends include, Vilma Scott, Pat and Brandon McCall, Richard and Norma Jessee and Babe Perham and Dr. Javier.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Falls Mills Christian Church with the Minister Terry Hodge officiating. Visitation with the family will be Sunday at the church from 1:30 till hour of service.
