Lepolian (LP) McConnell

BRAMWELL — Lepolian (LP) McConnell, 86, of Bramwell, our very special husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, mentor, Sunday school scholar and true friend, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on March 14, 1927 in Fish Dam, SC and was the son of the late Elder R.H. and Mrs. Estelle McConnell. Lepolian received his education in the McDowell County School System. He then began to work in the coal mines. He worked for 13 years as a coal loader, and then in 1950 he was inducted into the United States Army where he served his country proudly. Soon after that Lepolian (LP) moved his family to New Jersey. There, he worked several different jobs until he started working for the City of Newark. LP retired as a supervisor in one of the departments in the Division of Water and Sanitation. He joined Union Gospel Tabernacle under the leadership of the late Bishop Grover McCrea and served tirelessly as Deacon, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Men's Club and choir member of the Volunteer Choir.

After retiring, he returned to West Virginia where he joined New Bethel Temple under the leadership of his brother the late Bishop Alvester McConnell. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. He also served as Superintendent of the BCS Department of the Beckley Sub District. He loved New Bethel Temple and remained a member until his passing.

He left a legacy of truth, loyalty, love, and friendship. We will miss him so, but rejoice in knowing that he can enjoy asking questions and getting the correct answer from his heavenly father.  He was married to his wife Geneva for 63 years. LP and Geneva enjoyed life to the fullest and are the gold standard in making a life together.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Mr. Monie and Mrs. Emma Matthews; one brother, Bishop Alvester McConnell, one sister, Lee Ethel McConnell; one nephew, Jerry McConnell, and one niece, Deborah McConnell.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 63 years, Geneva McConnell of the home; two daughters, Colleen Yvette McConnell of the home, and Beverly (Gary) Lambert of  New Jersey; one son, Rufus McConnell of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Hayes (Memphis) McConnell of Gretna, VA, C. Allen (Tempie) McConnell of Toledo, OH, Cecil (Betty) Bullard of Bluefield, WV; two sisters, Doreatha (William) Nowlin of Columbus, OH, and Lorraine Brower of Houston, TX, one sister in law, Pauline McConnell of Bramwell, WV, five godchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at J.H. Easley Tabernacle UHC, 109 Henderson Street, Princeton, WV with Bishop Dwight Palmer officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
