Harry W. Farris Jr.

INTERLACHEN, Fla. — Harry W. Farris, Jr., 88, of Interlachen passed away at the Haven Hospice E.T. York Center for Caring in Gainesville, FL on Friday, February 28, 2014. He was born in Plaster, Virginia and had been a resident of Interlachen since 1994 coming from Keystone, WV.

He proudly served in the Unites States Navy during WWII and his patriotism was displayed when he flew the American flag in his front yard to honor the military. He worked as a coal miner and belonged to the United Mine Workers of America (U.M.W.A). He was a Methodist.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Farris; his second wife, Hazel Seely Farris; his parents, Harry W. Farris, Sr. and Josephine Farris; and a sister, Leola Hudson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harry W. “Skeeter” Farris, III and Marlene Farris of Keystone, WV; one granddaughter and spouse, Melanie and Spencer Moore of Richmond, VA; one great-granddaughter, Vivian Leigh “Loulou” Moore; caregivers, Mike and Kat Dowdy of Interlachen; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family whom he loved dearly.

Crypt side services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Mausoleum Woodlawn Memorial Park on Coal Heritage Road in Bluewell, WV with Pastor Ola Gay Mullins officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.
