Rev. John W. Crews

PRINCETON — PRINCETON — Rev. John W. Crews, 89, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Princeton Health Care Center.

Born, November 16, 1924, in Lerona, W.Va., he was the son of the late, Kelly and Lura Akers Crews.  

He preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a minister for 65 years, serving several area churches. He was an avid guitar player and loved playing and singing in church. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church at Lake Shawnee.

He also served in the Army and the Army National Guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Crews; son, John Crews Jr.; and his brothers, Frank, Ed and Bernard Crews.

Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret Crews; three daughters, Marie Marcincavage and her husband, Steve, Helen Daniels and her husband, Danny and Juanita Casey and her husband, Charlie; one son, Harvey Crews and his wife, Kelly; eight step-children, Brenda Crotty and her husband, Dwight, Norma Pennington and her husband, Danny, Debbie Hill and her husband, Danny, Anita Conner and her husband, Freddie, Florence Sargent and her husband, Randy, Rita Dowdy, Ellis Matherly and his wife, Mary and Ross Matherly and his wife, Bonnie; several grandchildren; and great-granchildren; and a host of  nieces and nephews; special friends, Carol Brady and Roger Kessinger; also, his extended family at Princeton Health Care Center and Hospice Compassus.

We will celebrate the life of Rev. John W. Crews on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Rev. Glenn Wiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery.  

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.  

Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Crews, Glen Crews, Larry Crews, Danny Crews, Jerry Carr and Dwight Crotty.
