Mary was a resident of Loving Hands Adult Care while under Hospice Care for a year.
She was born on December 20, 1920 in War, W.V. the daughter of the late Nick Scrotsky and Mary Olekshebic Scrotsky. She was a life long member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Powhatan, W.V. She was a homemaker, she worked as a cook most of her life. She was employed by the McDowell County Board of Education for many years, and last worked at Northfork High School. She loved gardening and traveling. She was a resident of McDowell County all her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Joseph McGrady Sr.; three sons Nick McGrady, Joseph McGrady Jr., and infant- son Johnny McGrady; two daughters Cecilia Holloway and Elizabeth Smith. Her step-father Jack Arzenko; two sisters Helen McBride and Julia Mahady; one brother Andrew Scrotsky and a son-in-law Ronald Graham.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters Scarlett Graham of Columbia, S.C., Mary Katherine McGrady of Hampton, Va., Clara Howard of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons-in-law Robert Smith of Springfield, Va., and James Holloway of Springfield, Va.; a daughter-in-law Sissy McGrady of Baltimore, Md.; one sister Jenny Lusk of Chicago, Ill.; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Powhatan, W.V. at 11:00 A.M. with Father Dass as celebrant.
Friends may call on Thursday evening at the Widener Funeral Home in Northfork from 4:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice of Bluefield, Rural Route 2, Box 180, Bluefield, W.V. 24701, in memory of Mary Elizabeth McGrady.
In honoring Mrs. McGrady's wishes, she will be cremated following the funeral service.
