HURLEY, Va. — Corbin Rife, 81 years of age, of Hurley, VA, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Carolina Specialty Hospital, Charlotte, NC, following an extended illness. Born in Hurley, VA, he was the son of the late Jarvie and Vadie Justus Rife. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Vansant Baptist Church.

Mr. Rife served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, founded Vansant Tire Co. and was a retired coal miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Zellie Dotson, Mendie Matney and Myrtle Belcher; 4 brothers: Ed Rife, Harold Rife, Thurman Rife and Frank Rife.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife, Opal Dotson Rife, Hurley, VA; 2 daughters: Cheryl (Randy) Tester, Hurley, VA, and Karen Thornhill, Charlotte, NC; 1 son: Michael Rife, Hurley, VA; 5 grandchildren: Ashleigh (John) Levesque, Charlotte, NC, Christy (Kyle) Winters, Charlotte, NC, Randall (Michelle) Tester, Alexandria, VA, Amanda Thornhill, Arlington, VA, and Michelle Rife, Charlotte, NC; 2 sisters: Dicy Cline, Hurley, VA, and Glenna Smith, Piney Flats, TN; 1 great-granddaughter: Graceyn Levesque, Charlotte, NC.

Funeral Services for Corbin Rife will be conducted Monday, December 23, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Casey Stark officiating with entombment to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Active pallbearers will be John Levesque, Kyle Winters, Chris Dotson, John Morrison, Randy Tester and Randall Tester.

Honorary pallbearers will be Walter (Jay) Dotson, Jr., Starlin Dotson, Jimmy Dotson, Kenny Rife, Eugene Cline, Dr. Clint Sutherland, Steve Rife, Dave Rife and Bobby Dotson.

Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
