Garnet Wright Thomas Bratton

PRINCETON — The Heavens opened up and received Garnet Wright Thomas Bratton, 101, of N. Walker St., Princeton, who passed away on December 12, 2012.

Garnet was born January 18, 1911 on the Oakvale Road near Princeton and lived her entire life in Princeton. She was the daughter of the late Ed and May Crotty Wright.

She was the oldest living member of the First Christian Church on Straley Avenue in Princeton, having joined the church in 1932. She was very active in all aspects of the church until failing health prevented further participation. She worked for several years as the supervisor of the lunch program at Princeton High School and later became an instructor for the Board of Education traveling throughout the state holding nutritional seminars at various schools.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Thomas and her second husband, Fred Bratton, along with eight brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her son, Russell Thomas and his wife Carol of Sacramento, California; a daughter, Norma Cooper and her husband Jack of Richmond, Virginia; three grandchildren, Bill and Gwyn Cooper, Bruce and Sharon Cooper, Troy Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Jeff,  Kevin, Brittany and Holly; her sister, Nell Walker and brother, Mate Wright both of Indianapolis, Indiana. Also being a large part of her family are two extraordinary caregivers, Joyce Blankenship, now of Salem, Virginia, formerly of Princeton, and Francis Hubbard of Oakvale.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Garnet Bratton will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, at the first Christian Church on Straley Avenue in Princeton with Pastor William Pollack officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday from noon until the service hour at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Pete Carter, Sam Conner, Paul Douglas, Bud Raines, Ralph Repass and Randy Winfrey.

The Bratton family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
