Harry S. “Dick” Vest

PRINCETON — Harry S. “Dick” Vest, 84, of Princeton, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born December 24, 1928 at Glenwood, he was the son of the late Irvin Floyd Vest and Zelma Bennett Vest.

Mr. Vest was a drill operator for I.F. Vest Construction Company in Beckley. He was a salesman for Myers and Mountain Electronics in Bluefield and later was the manager for Cheds Discount Store in Blacksburg, Virginia. He retired from Halley Electronics in Beckley. He was the Third and Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was an Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Princeton. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching football and basketball games. He was a loving husband and father.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin F. Vest, Jr., who was killed in action in World War II in Anzio, Italy, and James Elwood Vest; and three sisters, Dare Boone, Evelyn Johnston Steele and Ruby Wiggins.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Vera Vest; two sons, Michael “Micky” Vest and Steven Vest both of Princeton; one sister, Marie Ann Tallman of Eagle, ID; several nieces and nephews; his canine friend, Cricket; and his feline friend, Sneaky.

A Christian Wake Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with  Deacon Don Hammond Officiating

A cryptside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. Family and friends attending service are asked to meet at the mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Animal Shelter, 961 Shelter Rd., Princeton, WV 24740 or the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
