TAZEWELL, Va. —
Deborah Gail Smith “Debbie” Taylor, age 54 of Tazewell, VA died Saturday, September 21, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born January 12, 1959 in Tazewell, VA, she was a daughter of Lloyd G. Smith and Louise Asbury Smith of Tazewell, VA.
She was an active member of Black's Presbyterian Chapel of Tazewell Presbyterian Church where she has served as Elder and Clerk of the Session. She was also a member of the choir and participated each year in the Christmas Cantata and other special events with the Tazewell Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Tazewell High School, and Radford College where she earned her degree in accounting. Debbie was employed as an accountant at First Century Bank of Bluefield, WV. She loved sports especially Virginia Tech Football, the THS Bulldogs, the 49ers, the Steelers, and was an expert on the stats. One of her dreams was to be a Virginia Tech football commentator, which sadly now will not be realized. Debbie always put others first before herself and truly was a child of God.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Bert Rodney Taylor; one son, Ryan Chandler Taylor who is currently a student at Virginia Tech; two daughters, Savannah Rachelle Taylor of the home and Melissa Hope Taylor Crigger and husband, Albert of Roanoke, VA; two sisters, Sandy Smith Morefield and husband, Robert and Brenda Smith Linkous and husband, George all of Tazewell, VA; two brothers, Lloyd G. Smith, Jr. and wife, Sue Hall Smith of North Tazewell, VA and Tim Smith and wife, Sharon Williams Smith of Abingdon, VA; one grandchild, Benton Alexander Crigger of Roanoke, VA; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and in laws.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Reverend Ron Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Dennis Smith, Jason Smith, Robert Morefield, George Linkous, Jr., Albert Crigger, and Sam Taylor.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 PM Tuesday, September 24, 2013.
