NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. —
NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Edward Ray Lewis, age 60, of the Baptist Valley community of North Tazewell, Va., died Monday, September 16, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 13, 1952 at Bluefield, W.Va. and was a son of the late, Edd Lane Lewis and Margaret Asbury Lewis Synan. Eddie was a 1973 Graduate of Pocahontas High School and had worked most of his life as a coal miner with Pinnacle Mine and Cliff's Resources; he was a member of the UMWA Local #1713 at Pineville, W.Va. Mr. Lewis loved the beauty of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and camping. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Perry Lewis.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Sidney Pruett Lewis; sons, Steven Ray Lewis and Connie of Blacksburg, Va., Barry Lane Lewis of Radford, Va., and Bobby Wayne Boardwine of North Tazewell, Va.; three half-sisters, Linda Bogart and husband, Bill, Rhonda Bernal and husband, Tino, and Debbie Torrence and husband, Tim, all of Rock Island, Ill.; grandchildren, Brianna, Hannah, Dixie, Liam, Madison, Kathleen, Nathan, Brandon “Hammer”, B.J., and Julie; special cousin, Dixie; very special little girl, Kaylee Charles; a host of other family members and friends also survive.
Funeral Services for Edward Ray Lewis will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Hurst - Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with Sister Kathleen Stanley officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2013.
In honoring Mr. Lewis's wishes, his body will be cremated.
