TAZEWELL, Va. — Allen Randall Brewster, age 64, of the Thompson Valley community in Tazewell, Va. passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at his home. Born July 31, 1948 at Newhall, W.Va., he was a son of the late Carl and Mary Lee Brewster.

Allen graduated from Big Creek High School in 1966 and went into the U.S. Army. He was in the 101st Airborne, served as a combat engineer, completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, and received the Bronze Star Medal, along with other commendations. He worked thirty-five years in the coal mines and retired from Consolidation Coal Company’s Buchanan #1. Allen was a hard worker who loved the outdoors, working in his garden, fishing, watching sporting events, and playing with his dogs. He was loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Logan and one brother, George Vernon Brewster.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Debbie Brewster; one son, Jeff Brewster and wife, Tracie of Radford, Va.; one daughter, Misty Brewster McCann and husband, Terry of Thompson Valley, Va.; one brother, Larry Brewster and wife, Debbie of Tazewell, Va.; four very special grandchildren, Ashley and Natalie Brewster of Radford, Va., Cody and Reagan McCann of Thompson Valley, Va.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va. where funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. with the Reverend Henry Johnson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell, Va. and the VA National Guard Honor Team. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
