RICHLANDS, Va. —
Huffard Bart “Bill” Belcher, age 57, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away on March 2, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Harman, Virginia to Hazel “Shirley” Belcher and the late Moscoe Belcher on February 15, 1957.
He graduated Grundy Senior High School Class of 1975. He married Sherrie Matney Belcher in 1977 and became a father in 1983 with the birth of his daughter, Sheena. He worked as a driver for Consolidated Steel.
All who had the good fortune to know Bill will fondly remember his outgoing nature and his love of people. He tirelessly worked long hours throughout his life, but always managed to have time and attention to devote to his family. He was always the first to offer aid and assistance to a loved one in need. He had a love of nature and enjoyed hunting. He was an avid bowler, coming within one pin of a perfect game. He had a knack with all things mechanical and took pride in his projects, large and small. From the best places to ride a motorcycle to the most recent race standings, he had a wealth of knowledge that made conversation with him a joy.
Bill was a member of Baptist Valley Assembly of God where he was recently appointed deacon. Sharing his deep faith and love for God with others came naturally to him. Perhaps the greatest testimony of his faith was the love, kindness, and compassion that were hallmarks of his character.
Bill is survived by Sherrie Belcher, his wife of 37 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Sheena and Matthew Hubbard of Charlottesville, VA; granddaughters, Aubrey and Evelyn Hubbard of Charlottesville, VA; his brothers, Steve and Daniel Belcher of Grundy and Terry Belcher of Abingdon; his sister, Jane Wood of Fincastle, VA; his mother, Shirley Belcher of Grundy, VA, and mother and father-in-law, Basil and Marie Matney of Richlands, VA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Seth White, Rev. Ted Sparks, and Rev. James Charles officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will include Jeff Begley, Nick Belcher, Jeffrey Wood, Dustin Robinette, Greg Matney, Anthony Cox, Eardie Ward, Justin Bandy, Gavin Cox, Chris Howington, and Braum Robinette. The Men of Baptist Valley Assembly of God and Employees of Consolidated Steel have been named honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be held at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 5.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National PKU Alliance (www.npkua.org).
