PRINCETON — Helen Marie Thornton, 66, of Princeton, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born May 21, 1947 at Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late, Henry Adkins and Helen Horne Adkins.
Mrs. Thornton was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She liked to play Bingo, watch TV and do art activities. She was the rock of the family.
In addition to her family, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Thornton in 1997; two brothers, Henry Horne and Steve Horne; two sisters, Bertha Honaker and Emma Jean Turner; and a son-in-law, Tommy Cutshall.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Lee Mathena and her fiancé, Phillip Justice of Princeton; three sons, Bobby Ray Thornton and his wife, Missy of Princeton, Frank Everett Thornton of Princeton and James Owen Thornton of Princeton; two brothers, Tommy Horne of Brushfork and Gary Michael Horne of Princeton; three sisters, Carolyn Thornton of Princeton, Ella Mae Bogle of Bluefield and Amanda Pendleton of Princeton; 16 grandchildren, Amy, Libby, Scooter, Leslie, Ashley, Lil Jimmy, Lil Frank, Lil Bob, Christina, Manda, Sabrina, Heather, Kenny Lee, Bobby Lee, Kailey and Destiny; nine great-grandchildren and two on the way.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Brenda Miller officiating. Interment will follow at the New Zion Cemetery at Princeton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clifton Saunders, Allen Lawrence, Phillip Justice, Joseph Mathena, James Thornton and Kenny Thornton.
Friends may visit Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
