Rudolph Valentino "Mr. Darlin" Holman

PRINCETON — PRINCETON — Rudolph Valentino "Mr. Darlin" Holman, 83, of Princeton, W.Va. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Princeton Community Hospital following a brief illness. Rudy was born on December 3, 1930 in Coretta, W.Va to the late, Dorsey Holman and Bonnie Wilks. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an uncle, Ollie "Fat Man" Davis; and aunt, Kathlean Davis. Rudy was a past member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Worth, W.Va. but had most recently attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Maybeury, W.Va. Rudy attended the McDowell County Schools and was a graduate of Elkhorn County High School.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Henrietta Martin Holman; daughters Denise Holman (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) and Bonnie Jean Reddings (Niagara Falls, N.Y.); son, Rudolph (Regina) V. Holman II (Buffalo, N.Y.); step-children, Michael Hicks (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), Deborah Hicks (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), Vanessa Martin (Indianapolis, Ind.), Michelle (David) Cooper (Princeton, W.Va.),  Daniela (Anthony) Williams (Columbus) and Chianti (Kristen) Martin (South Point, Ohio); 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Gwendolyn Cuffy (Princeton, W.Va.

After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1947, Rudy started his career working at Kimberly Clark and General Motors before accumulating over 20 years in the mining industry via employment with U.S. Steele, Pocahontas and Algoma Mining. In Pursuit of his love for food, he later served as a chef at Douglas Deli and Western Sizzlin  Restaurant. Rudy was also a member of the United Mine Workers Association of Gary, W.Va. in addition to Elks Local Danco Lodge 1310, Powhatan, W.Va.

A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Upland Missionary Baptist Church, Upland, W.Va. Family and friends may visit from 10-12 p.m., with the service starting promptly at 12 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Harold Calloway, the Rev. James Crosier, the Rev. Timothy Hairston, the Rev. Jerome Powell and Elder David Helm. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Littlesburg Rd, Bluewell. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Widener Funeral Home, Northfork, W.Va.
