Elmer Nelson Ferris Jr.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Elmer Nelson Ferris Jr., 79, of Fort Wayne, Indiana died peacefully Thursday, February 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Born August 13, 1934, in Elberta, Michigan, he was the son of the late Elmer Ferris Sr. and Sarah Nagy.

He was a veteran having served his country with the U.S. Army. Elmer retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad with 34 years of service. He served the Lord and was a member of Christ's Hope Ministries and Church. The most important thing in Elmer's life was to serve the Lord and minister to his children. He truly enjoyed spending his time with his wife and family.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ferris, and children - daughter Renee Cline and husband Eddie, daughter Sue Hatfield, son James Hatfield and wife Marianne, daughter Vickie Holdren, and son Nelson Ferris III, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Services to celebrate the life of Elmer Ferris will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 1:00 PM from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Dan Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. Serving as pallbearers will be Mitchel Cline, Steven Sandlin, Joseph Sandlin, Nelson Ferris IV, Austin Lockhart, and Jacob Holdren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
