TAZEWELL, Va. —
Born March 27, 1929 at Vallscreek, WV, he was a son of the late Thomas R. Altizer and Bessie Reedy Altizer. He was a US Navy Veteran retiring after 20 years and having served in Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Altizer has been a member of the Barns Beavers VFW Post # 7136 of Tazewell, VA for over 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Louise Goodwin, Minnie Owens, Margaret Steele, Mary Walush, and Boots Childress; four brothers, Jack Altizer, Claude Altizer, Slick Altizer, and Thomas Altizer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Akers Altizer and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with J.E. King officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA where military graveside services will be conducted by members of the Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell, VA and the VA National Honor Guard Team of Gate City, VA. Members of VFW Post #7136 will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
