Janet Lee Leslie Meadows

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Janet Lee Leslie Meadows, 75, of Bluefield, VA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 30, 2014.  

She was born to the late Frank Neal Leslie and Clara Mae Turner Leslie of Bluefield, WV, on November, 27, 1938.

She had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell, VA. After graduating from Bluefield High School, where she was in the marching band, she attended Bluefield College. There she was a cheerleader and on the May Day Court. She then attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN, and obtained a B.A. in Elementary Education. She was an elementary school teacher in the Tazewell County School system for 37 years. One of the highlights of her career was publishing with her students a book entitled, "The ABC's of Tazewell County."

Janet was very social, participating in the Main Street Lucie Scott Circle, Retired Teachers Bridge Club, Garden Club, Red Hat Society, Bluefield College Golden Graduates Society and Educators Hall of Influence and also helped organize her 50th year High School Reunion. She enjoyed her flower garden, the Hokies, traveling, and playing the organ. Janet will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend.  

Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Meadows and sister, Martha BeCraft.

She is survived by her two children: Son, Shawn Meadows of Christiansburg, VA, and daughter, Jill Hoppin and her husband Rob of Alexandria, VA, and her grandson, Thomas Hoppin.  

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell, VA with Dr. Tom Conley and the Rev. Anthony Grills officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Friends may call on Monday, February 3rd from 7-9 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home in Bluefield, VA and one hour prior to services at the church.
