LaFOLLETTE, Tenn. —
Joe K. Elswick Jr., 66, of LaFollette, TN, formerly of McDowell County and Princeton, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday morning, January 31, 2014 with his family at his side.
Born January 21, 1948, in Anawalt, he was the son of Helen Vitosky Elswick of Princeton and the late Joe K. Elswick Sr.
Joe was a graduate of Gary High School, Class of 1965 where he was an outstanding athlete. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict having served four years with the U.S. Marine Corp. He later attended Bluefield State College where he received a 2 year Associate Degree.
For eighteen years, Joe was employed by U.S. Steel Corp. #4 mines as a maintenance foreman. He later was the general manager for Hall Chevrolet and Actions Automobiles in Welch. Joe then served as the administrator for the Welch and Bluefield Moose Lodge. He was a member of the VFW Post 8413 and the American Legion Post #8 both of Welch. After his retirement, he moved to Tennessee where he enjoyed fishing with his son Bobby Joe and raising his garden. Joe will long be remembered for being a devoted son, husband, father and brother.
He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Helen, his loving and caring wife of 44 years, Vickie Falvo Elswick of LaFollette, TN, along with his two devoted sons and their spouses: Robert Joseph (Bobby Joe) and Terry Lynn Elswick of LaFollette TN, Alan Rex and Candace Marie Elswick of Princeton. Three siblings Linda Bolen and husband Ted of Wellsburg, Susan Fisher of Christiansburg, VA, Cindy Stone and husband John of Princeton. A host of nephews and nieces.
Services to celebrate the life of Joe Elswick will be held 1:00 PM Monday, February 3, 2014 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Stella Falvo officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.
Friends may visit with the family Monday from Noon until the service hour at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tanner Lockhart, Michael Bolen, Mark Bolen, Ed Barrett, Jason Howerton and David Camacho.
