Charles Montgomery “Cotton” Bone

BLUEFIELD — Charles Montgomery “Cotton” Bone, 87, of 1105 James Street, Bluefield, WV died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at a Bluefield hospital. Born November 15, 1926 in Bluefield, WV he was a son of the late William Clark Bone and Rosie Neal Bone.

Charlie was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he was also a member of the choir. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of service, and had also served as Secretary of the Postal Union. He was an avid Bluefield Beaver football fan, keeping diary of all stats since 1959.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a daughter Chris Carol Moore, a grandson Brian Keith Moore, and brothers Neal, Jack, Joe and Harold Bone.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Nancy Arnold Bone of the home, a son Monty Bone and his wife Sonja of Bluefield, VA, 4 grandchildren: Monty Bone, Jr., Holly Bone, Brendan Bone and Heidi Bone, nieces and nephews: Vickie Gore, Marsha Bone Houchins, Tina Clendenin, Teresa Cole, Eddie Niece and Jerry Niece.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Bassett officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum where Mark Lightfoot, Ed Niece, Jerry Niece, Jim Arnold and Paul Looney will serve as pallbearers. Heber Stafford will be a honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.

Charlie loved flowers and he was also concerned about the care of animals. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Charlie's memory are requested to so to Mercer County Humane Society, P.O. Box 5723, Princeton, WV 24740.
