Shirley J. Whittaker

PRINCETON — Shirley J. Whittaker, 78, of 602 Front Street in Princeton died Friday, June 28, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born April 19, 1935 in Mullins, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Robert and Helen Strong Harman.

She retired from the Mercer County School System where she was a cook at numerous schools throughout Mercer County. She was a member of the First Church of God on Mahood Avenue in Princeton and a former member of the Women's Club. Shirley had been a lifelong resident of Princeton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Basil “Fox Hunter” Whittaker, and son-in-law, Rick Dinkins.

She is survived by three daughters, Beth Whittaker Dinkins of Princeton, Sue Whittaker Kuglar and her husband John of Daphne, Ala., and Michelle Whittaker Trail of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Kuglar, and Amanda and Lindsey Trail; one brother, George Harman and his wife Betty of Princeton; two sisters, Nancy White and her husband Mack of Glenwood, and Lois Harman of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013 at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley. Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Christopher Kuglar, Matthew Kuglar, Mark White, Mike White, Bill Harman, and Fred Bailey. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Monday.
