RICHLANDS, Va. —
He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late William Emory and Ella Madge Harris Lester of Tazewell County, Virginia. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and lived all of his life in the Richlands area. Mr. Lester was former owner and operator of Bob East End Service Station in Richlands, Virginia. He was a member of Richlands Lodge No. 318 AF & AM for 46 years and was a past worshipful master. He was a member of the Midway United Methodist Church in Paintlick, Virginia. He was the last surviving member of his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Virginia Meade Lester; three sisters, Leila Clarke Lester, Mary Martha Lawson, Lillie Edwards McFarlane; two brothers, William Eugene Lester, Billy Dean Lester; and one son-in-law, Pete Chaney.
He is survived by: two daughters: Mrs. Karen Chaney of Claypool Hill, Virginia, Mrs. Patty Phillips of Richlands, Virginia. four grandchildren: Kelly Phillips, Zachary Phillips, Madison Phillips and Tori Chaney; three great-grandchildren: Nicholas Phillips, Sophia Phillips and Sylas Johnson. A host of family and friends also survive.
Funeral services for John Robert (Bob) Lester will be conducted Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Paul McNalley officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post No. 9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The Lester family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second Street, Richlands, Va. Richlands Lodge No. 318 AF and AM will conduct Masonic services at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
