Ella Faye Lowery

RICHLANDS, Va. — She was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Myrtle Hess Price Proffitt. Mrs. Lowery was the longest standing nurse's aide at the Mattie Williams Hospital, working from 1967 until it closed. During her employment, she worked in multiple departments including OB and central sterile. She lived all her life in the Richlands area and was a member of the Chapel of Love.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Samuel Milton “Sam” Lowery; two daughters, Myrtle Lozine “Tooty” Lowery and Rev. Shirley Louise Hale; one son-in-law, Roger Lee Miller; four sisters, Mae Hand, Orvil Strouth, Belle Elswick, Clara Lawson; and one brother, George Price.

She is survived by: Four Daughters: Pauline Keen and husband, Oris “Jerry” of Honaker, VA, Nettie Helbert and husband, Larry of Cedar Bluff, VA, Betty Miller Clark and husband, Doug of Cedar Bluff, VA, Alice Reynolds and husband, Morris of Christiansburg, VA; One Son-in-Law, Roger Hale of Thomasville, NC; One Sister, Lucy McInVale and husband, Jessie of DE; Special Nephew, Roger Elswick of Dover;  Twelve grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; A host of church family and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Ella Faye Lowery will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Roger Lester and Rev. Grady McGlothlin officiating.  Entombment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum, Richlands, VA.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.  

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Thursday evening and Friday evening at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
