Eddie Ray “Butch” Ash

PRINCETON — Eddie Ray “Butch” Ash, 70, of Halls Ridge Road in Princeton, died Friday, December 07, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born in Premier, W.Va., May 20, 1942, he was the son of the late James Ash and Lilly Belle Bunn Ash Showalter.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and proudly served nine years in the “Corps” before becoming a U.S. Forest Ranger with the Department of Natural Resources where he served for five years before a tragic on the job accident ended his career. Butch has bravely lived his life for the past 33 years as a quadriplegic with the assistance and loving care of his wife and three daughters. He was of the Pentecostal Faith and was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Association and the American Legion. Butch enjoyed sports and was a fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Washington Redskins. He had been a resident of Princeton since 2000 moving here from Iaeger, W.Va.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Faye Stumbo Ash of Princeton; three daughters, Patti Rae Dotson and her husband Chuck of Dublin, Va., Alice Louise Compton of Princeton and Helen Marie Smith and her husband Patrick of Bland, Va.; nine grandchildren including a special granddaughter, Brianna Hall, who made her home with Butch and Mary; Tyler Dotson, Tanner Dotson, Chase Dotson, Kevin Compton, Ashlee Compton, Dylan Walker, Sydney Walker and Parker Smith; one sister, Helen Weekley and her husband Charles of Bellaire, Ohio; one brother, Nathan Ash and his wife Peggy of Moundsville, W.Va.; and a special sister, Donna Morgan and her husband Don of Welch, W.Va.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Michael Brooks and Pastor Scott Catron officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Park Cemetery where the Mercer County Veterans Council and the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.
