Garnett Eugene Meadows

RAVENNA, Ohio — Garnett Eugene Meadows, age 85, of Ravenna, Ohio, formerly of Raven, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in a hospital in Ravenna, Ohio following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Red Ash, Virginia and was the son of the late Loran and Vicie Griffith Meadows, former Tazewell County, Virginia natives. Garnett served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later worked in manufacturing at the B.M. Marble Chair Factory in Bedford, Ohio. He was of the Baptist faith and had lived most of his life in the Raven area before moving to Ohio.   

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Audrey Althea Meadows; two brothers, Chester Meadows and Elmer Meadows; three sisters, Ola Gay Meadows, Arvilla Meadows, and Francis Honaker.   

He survived by: Two Daughters: Ellen Eisele of Ravenna, OH, Julie Walker and husband, John of Chino Valley, AZ. Five Sisters: Margie Robinette of Abingdon, VA, Thelma Yates of Stafford, VA, Mildred Ann Dye of Raven, VA, Ruth Geneva Osborne of Ravenna, OH, Shirley Miester of Independence, OH. Two Brothers: Roy R. Meadows of Abingdon, VA, Vernie J. Meadows of Abingdon, VA. Also surviving is five grandchildren and six great grandchildren along with a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Garnett Eugene Meadows will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, July 14, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Elder Ked Stacy officiating. Interment will follow in the Newberry Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge, near Raven, VA. Members of the Casey-Short VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be: Quay Honaker, Glen Robinett, George Yates, David Nancarrow, Eddie Dye, Cody Dye, Gary Dye and Randall Yates. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tim Osborne and Greg Honaker.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
