JOLO — John A. “Grizz” Rose Jr. of Groundhog near Jolo, W.Va., passed away at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, W.Va., Monday, July 22, 2013, following a short illness.

John was born January 18, 1947 in Jolo, W.Va., a son of the late John A. Rose Sr. and Ida Mae Underwood Rose. He was a disabled coal miner, a United States Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Followers of Christ Church at Paynesville, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Leonard Rose and one sister, Linda Lou Farley.  

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Sharon Lou Mullins Rose of the home; two daughters, Sara Rose Kade and husband Steven of Princeton, W.Va., and Rebecca Lynn Rose and fiancé Bryce Hurley of Whitewood, Va.; six sisters, Virginia Kennedy of Jolo, W.Va., Beatrice Hagerman and husband Theodore of Jolo, W.Va., Margaret Estep of Jolo, W.Va., Peggy Offenbecker and Sandy Haggy both of Lenoir, N.C., and  Ida Elizabeth Boothe and husband Lester of Lebanon, Va.; three brothers, Don Rose and wife Wilma, Terry Rose and wife Brenda and Jerry Rose all of Jolo, W.Va.; three grandsons, Ian Starnes, McKinsey Phillips, and Devin Phillips all of Lake City, Tenn., a special granddaughter, Shannon Boothe of Lebanon, Va.; two aunts, Rosie Letts, and Marie McFarlane both of Elkton, Md.; and three children from previous marriage who live in Tennessee.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 26, 2013, at 12 o’clock, with Elder Jerry Stacy, Elder Glen Vance, Brother Freddie Vance and Brother Alvie Baker officiating at the Followers of Christ Church at Paynesville, W.Va. Burial will follow in the Rose/Stacy Cemetery at Groundhog near Jolo, W.Va. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

Friends may visit with the family at the Followers of Christ Church at Paynesville Thursday evening, July 25, 2013, after 6 p.m.

Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger is assisting the Rose family.
