Billy B. Sparks Sr., 77, of Kegley, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at his residence.
Billy was born November 4, 1936, at Matoaka, he was the son of the late Charles Sparks and Kathleen Burton Sparks.
He served in the U.S. Army - 1st Armored Division for 6 years (1957-1963).
He worked for 40 years in several jobs including coal mining, Royal Typewriter (Bluefield) and the Mercer County Board of Education. He loved being an outdoorsman and father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings: Larry Major, Franklin Burton, Weldon Burton, Rolland Burton, Harold Burton, Earnest Wright, Kathleen Wright, and Leonard Wright.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Justine Sparks; two sons, Billy Sparks Jr. and Doug Sparks; two daughters, Debbie Furches and companion Doug Akers, Tammy Vaught and husband Tim; grandchildren, Niki Truitt and husband Noel, Ashley Vaught, Jennifer Fields, Jessica Bridge and husband Brennan, Erica Furches, Lindsey Koen and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren, Conner and Kynlee Truitt, Hannah, Jordyn, and Kylie Fields, Gabrielle Selvey, Shea Bridges, Carson and Jackson Koen. Other family survivors include sisters, Linda Carter, Darlene Major; niece, Patty Billings and husband Timmy; and sisters-in-law, Wilma Gentry and Claudia Merrill.
The family has honored Billy's request that he be cremated and services will be held at a later date.
