Robert Lee “Bob” Myers

KEGLEY — Robert Lee “Bob” Myers, 82, of the Kegley School Road, Kegley died peacefully Friday evening, February 14, 2014 only to hear his Lord and Savior, well done thy good and faithful servant, welcome home.

Born December 25, 1931, at Elkhorn, he was the son of the late Duran B. Myers and Lula Clyde Handy Myers.

Bob was a graduate of Spanishburg High School, Class of 1951, while in school, he was an outstanding basketball player, served as captain of the team and still holds the record for scoring the most points in one game at Spanishburg High School. He then entered the service to serve with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, obtaining the rank of Sgt. within a short period of time. He was a retired employee for the Mercer County Board of Education with more than 30 years of service.

Bob will be long remembered for his love for God, having served as a minister for many years and for many churches, having retired from Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Bottom. No matter where you were, or who you were, or what you were doing at the time, Bob Myers was going to witness to you and tell you just how good his Lord and Savior was and what he could do for you.

Bob loved his family very much, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Janice Marie King Myers, along with his 7 siblings: Cecil, Harold, Jim, Basil, Dorothy, Wanda and Madeline. He was the last surviving member of his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his five children: Jerry and Sharon Myers of Winston-Salem, NC, Sheila and Grant Harbridge of Forrest, VA, Debbie Myers of Princeton, Marilyn and Terry Griffith of Kegley, Julie and Matt Mullens of Christiansburg, VA; 8 grandchildren: Jessica Ennis and husband Chris, Terri Griffith, Brent Wimmer, Cliff Wimmer, Kyle Wimmer, Wesley Myers, Morgan Mullens and Karsen Mullens. And his extended family and friends who cared and helped Bob.

Services to celebrate the life of Bob Myers will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors C.T. Lilly and Casper Dalton officiating. Bob will be laid to rest in the King Family Cemetery at Kegley with his four grandsons: Brent, Cliff and Kyle Wimmer, Wesley Myers; along with Chris Ennis and Brad Belcher serving as pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
