LAKE SHAWNEE —
Gertrude Wilson Blankenship Blevins, 97, of the Princeton Health Care Center, Courthouse Road, Princeton. Formerly of Lake Shawnee, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at her residence.
Born September 16, 1916, in Lake Shawnee, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Blankenship and Mossie Belle McPherson Blankenship.
Gertrude was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, reading and sewing. She was a member of the Lakeview Presbyterian Church at Lake Bottom.
Mrs. Blevins was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Blevins; three children, Mary Whittaker, Dorothy Meadows and Kenneth Blevins; one grandson, Byron Archie; four brothers, Cecil, Roscoe, Howe and Kelly Blankenship and two sisters , Sadie Sheets and Elizabeth Yost. Also, preceding her in death are her sons-in-law, Gary Meadows, Marvin Whittaker, Larry Blankenship and Houston Howington.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Iris Ashley and her husband Jesse, James Preston Blevins and wife Edna, all of Lashmeet, WV; Loretta Burgess. Anna Howington, Ramona Archie, Carl Frederick Blevins and wife Lori and Jeffrey Steven Blevins and his wife Sheree all of Princeton, WV; Nancy Bodnar and her husband Thomas of Louisville, TN. One sister, Lattie Sneed of Princeton; 16 grandchildren, Bill and Rhea Whittaker, Mary Grace and Scott Knupp, Mark and Leslie Ashley, Vicki and David Shrader, Kim and Roger Killiam, Karen Randolph, Rhonda Blevins, Robert Blevins and wife Brittany, Mary Blevins, Yvette Vanaller, Alisha and Bob Michelson, Carl Blevins Jr., Kristi Miller and husband Tom, B.J. Blevins, Chris Meadows and wife Janet, and Josh and Jessica Blevins; 32 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren. And a host of nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Gertrude Wilson Blankenship Blevins will be held 2:00 P.M. today (Monday), February 17, 2014 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Norman Mills and Larry Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Blevins Family Cemetery on Reece Harmon Ridge, Lashmeet.
Friends may visit with the family from noon until the hour of service at the funeral home.
