OAKWOOD, Va. —
Mrs. Hattie Lois Clayburne, age 104, of Oakwood, Virginia, departed this earth Saturday, July 6, 2013 in Tazewell, Virginia following a long illness.
Born September 16, 1908 in Pickens County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William L. Reeves and Hattie Chapman Reeves. She moved to Buchanan County at the age of 18 after she was married, and made her home at Little Garden. She enjoyed being a homemaker and wife of a coal miner, rearing eleven children. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking, canning, collecting antiques, crocheting and sewing. She was a woman of prayer and loved studying the Word of God. She read through the Bible once a year for many years, and was a founding member of Little Garden Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, her husband of seventy years, Charles Adam Clayburne; two sons, Raymond S. Clayburne and Johnny E. Clayburne; two daughters, Matrel Davies and Hattie Sue Hayes; four grandsons, Wayne Clayburne Jr., Charles Trace Davidson, Christopher Todd Richardson and Darrell Yates; six sisters and seven brothers.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Peggy Davidson of Bluefield, Va., Mrs. Joyce Jude and husband Jerry of North Tazewell, Va., Mrs. Dorothy Ennis and husband Michael of Summit, Miss., Mrs. Charlotte Richardson and husband Coy of Cedar Bluff, Va.; three sons, Charles “Bud” Clayburne and wife Ruth of Deerfield, Va., Larry W. Clayburne and wife Wanda of Millboro, Va. and Donald Clayburne and wife Patricia of Oakwood, Va.; one brother, Truman Reeves of Los Angeles, Calif.; thirty-five grandchildren, fifty-eight great-grandchildren and thirty-eight great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Virginia with the Rev. Phillip Horton, the Rev. Ralph Horton and the Rev. Brian Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
