PRINCETON — Born February 7, 1941 in Crumpler, WV she was the daughter of the late Andy Wiley Parson and Lillian Mitchem Parson.

Joan was a 1959 graduate of Herndon High School and was a retired caregiver in children's day care centers as well as adult care homes. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Oakvale and had been a resident of this area for 24 years moving here from Maryland.

Survivors include her husband of twenty three years, Richard L. Brown of Princeton; one daughter, Kathy Calver of Huntsville, AL; two sons, Gary Turner of Princeton, and Larry Turner of Hyattsville, MD; three step children, Richard Darrell Brown and wife Carolyn of Princeton, Sharon Matherly and husband Roger and Dwight David Brown all of Sissonville, NC; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Janice Shrewsbury and husband Wayne of Bud, WV; and one brother, Philip Parson and wife Julia of Ashland, KY.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Faith Baptist Church in Oakvale with Pastor Terry Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at the Bailey Cemetery in Beartown, WV. Men of the Faith Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the Faith Baptist Church in Oakvale from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013 (today).
