CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Mary Jane McThenia Grinstead Rutherford passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands, Va., after bravely battling cancer for many years. Affectionately known to many as “Mamaw Jane,” she touched every life she came in contact with. She was a testimony to the saving grace and changing power of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, Cedar Bluff, Va., having served there previously as the Pastor’s wife for nineteen years.

She was born to the late Barton Baxter McThenia and Bertha Hurley McThenia on July 11, 1941. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny David Grinstead; first born son, David Allen Grinstead; second husband, Leonard Rutherford; brothers, Barton Earl “Buster” McThenia, and Donald Dean McThenia.

Survivors include her children, Ricky Lee Grinstead and wife, Rhonda, of Bolivia, N.C., Angela Kay Udart and husband, Glenn, of Woodford, Va., Christopher Clay Grinstead and wife Christa of Cumming, Ga., and John Kelly Grinstead and wife Michelle of Kodak, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Brian Grinstead and wife Dana, Joshua Ratliff and wife Valerie, Hannah Grinstead, Rachel Grinstead, and Jacob Grinstead; four great-grandchildren, Ariana Grinstead, Haven Grinstead, Macie Ratliff, and Sadie Ratliff; five brothers, Andy Pat McThenia and wife, Peggy, of Glade Spring, Va., Dewey McThenia and wife, Ann, of Marion, Va., Clayton “Cork” McThenia and wife, Gayle, of Rock Falls, Ill., David McThenia of Damascus, Va., and Danny McThenia of Glade Spring, Va.; one sister-in-law, Patsy McThenia of Rock Falls, Ill..; Mrs. Doris Ratliff, who has been such an important part of her care for the past few years, members, especially the ladies prayer group, of Calvary Baptist Church, her many friends who have held her up in prayer, and to the nurses and staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center who so diligently cared for her these past few weeks.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, Virginia.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, Virginia with the Rev. Scottie Brown, Rev. Larry Ratliff, and Rev. Chris Grinstead officiating. Pallbearers will be Jacob Grinstead, Brian Grinstead, Joshua Ratliff, Frankie Deel, Roger Brown, and Shannon Hodges. Internment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia.
