Shirley Moore Baker

BAYOWN, Texas — After a long battle with Alzheimer's disease that ended on April 26, 2012, Shirley Moore Baker, age 74, will be returning home to her family and laid to rest. Shirley was born to parents Tom and Mary Moore on Dec. 8, 1937 in Pocahontas, Va. It was here in Pocahontas, Va., where she attended Pocahontas High School and later met, then married William "Bill" Baker. To this union three boys were born, Tommy, Kenny and Troy Baker. They later moved to Baytown, Texas where Shirley worked as a school bus driver. Shirley was also an artist and a crafts lady. Shirley loved to paint, sew and make things that added color to a person's life.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Mary Moore; a brother, Bobby “Danny” Moore; and her husband, William “Bill” Baker. Shirley was a loving and caring person to all who knew her.

Survivors include son, Tommy Baker of Calif.; son, Kenny Baker and wife, Cynthia of Friendswood, Texas; son, Troy Baker and wife, Donna of Fort Smith, Ark.; grandchildren, Samantha Baker, Darcus Sparks, Adrian Sr., Jazmine Okuboyejo and Abi Okuboyejo, Michael Baker, Justin Baker, Brandon Baker; great-grandchildren, A.J. and Skiye Sparks; brother and sisters-in-laws, Keith and Shirley Baker of Waller, Texas, Joan and Frank Aiken of Fancy Gap, Va., Ellen Rose of Abbs Valley, Va., Johnny and Patty Baker of Abbs Valley, Va., Bobby and Sandy Baker of Abbs Valley, Va.; brother, Jerry Moore and wife, Marilyn of Carlsbad, N.M.; and sister, Brenda Ross Parker of Bluefield, Va.  Shirley also had a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Graveside service will be held at the Baker Family Cemetery (Atwell Rd.) in Boissevain, Abbs Valley,  Virginia at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Va. is serving the Baker family.
