CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Ms. Bessie Stacy Keene, age 92, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia departed from this life on Saturday, April 19, 2014 in a local Richlands hospital.

She was born in McDowell County, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Charlie and Pattie Church Stacy. Bessie dedicated her life to caring for her family, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She spent many hours sewing quilts and making beaded necklaces that she always gave away, she loved to give of herself to others. She would give you her last dollar whether you needed it or not, it did her heart good to give to others. Bessie spoke her mind, and would tell you like it was, but she also had the patience of a saint. Her joy in life was her family and helping anyone in need. She had attended the Amonate Freewill Baptist Church and was member of the “WIN” Widows in Need Club for many years. Her most often spoken words were, “I love you but Jesus loves you more”

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Riley Keene; three infant children, Paul Keene, Hazel Keene, and June Keene; son, Thomas R. Keene, Jr. and wife, Christine; son-in-law Jimmy Brown; three grandsons, Robert Glass, Jr., Johnny Edward Keene and Jeffrey Keith Brown.

Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her Five Daughters: Patty Brown of North Tazewell, VA, Janice Keene of Pounding Mill, VA, Peggy Osborne and husband, Harold of Baptist Valley, VA, Joyce Price and husband, Bob of North Tazewell, VA, Audrey Carol Keene of the home. Three Sons: Lonnie Keene and wife Joyce of Bland, VA, Earl Keene and wife, Millie of Baptist Valley, VA, Eddie “Popeye” Keene and wife, Moresa of Rural Hall, NC. One Sister, Flora Vickers of Goodwater, AL. Her faithful feline companions, Sierra and Socks of the home; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 17 great great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive along with a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Bessie Stacy Keene will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday (today), April 22, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev.'s Troy Lester, Jimmy Perkins and Buddy Herald officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, P.J. Keene, Nicholas Keene, Marshall Keene, Michael Glass, Chris Osborne, Randy Osborne, Tivis Brown and Wesley Keene. Honorary pallbearers will be Olen Keene, Jerry Lee Keene, David Allen Keene, Frankie Brown and Don Baker.

The family received friends from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm on Monday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
